Trust is relationships.

By Andrea Reibmayr

The fundamental part of experiences and knowledge are transferred through relationships built between people when they live together or work together, informally or formally.

The fundamental part of experiences and knowledge are transferred through relationships built between people when they live together or work together, informally or formally.

By nurturing relationships, a leader builds social capital. Social capital is the “resources available in and through an organization’s personal and business networks”. There has to be mutual trust in order to build and sustain social connections. Relationships are at the very heart and soul of an organization’s ability to get any job done.

Healthy relationships in organizations indicate a healthier organization. When people relate well to each other, when they engage each other in meaningful valuable, and respectful conversation, and when they know the people at work well enough to trust them, then work is more productive and less conflict exists.

Trust is about relationships

Leaders can create social capital within their organizations by investing in relationships and providing opportunities in the following ways:

• Hold both formal and informal meetings and discussion groups.

• Walk the halls and listen to employees’ issues.

• Provide occasions for social and business exchanges.

• Establish communities of practice.

• Share meals and celebrate successes together.

Actualization, collaboration and service are key in relationships. We are meant to be with others. We are not a Me but a We. We are all connected. We need to become more relationship oriented and less task oriented.

What is it you want in a relationship – by asking this question you are seeing yourself as separate, as others. You already are one with others. We are energy and connected by time and space. Relationships are laboratories of the spirit. The purpose of the relationship is to actualize.

Energy is governed by the law of attraction. We attract people who have similar emotional and vibrational patterns. You know when you are with your tribe or community at work. We also attract people who reflect back to us our fears and weaknesses as well as our strengths and potential. Some work experiences are there for us to learn. We attract experiences that we need to help us to grow.

Compassion is key to ourselves and in being present for others. Be intentional about how you will be of service as a leader when you wake up in the morning or when you walk into a room for a meeting. Others are wounded just like you. This knowledge allows you to be compassionate, empathetic and to speak from the heart. When you have those moments of anger, pause and remember that you are in relationships to grow and learn. Being aware of the energy that is occurring, reflecting and choosing the most compassionate response will increase the energy in the room. You will instil trust.

Let your vibe attract your tribe.
